THE BAG STORY

This is one of those Yves Saint Laurent pieces that feels distinctly of its era while still looking incredibly relevant today.

Rather than the smooth calfskin more commonly associated with YSL clutches, this version is crafted from eel leather, giving the surface its distinctive fine texture, subtle sheen and beautifully fluid feel. The rich violet-purple colour makes it even more unusual, while the sculptural Y-shaped envelope closure keeps the design recognisably Saint Laurent.

The same purple eel-leather Y Envelope design appears only occasionally on the secondary market, so I’d describe this particular combination as an uncommon and harder-to-find archival YSL piece, rather than claiming purple was officially produced as a limited or “rare” colourway.

Its slim envelope silhouette also makes it surprisingly versatile — elegant enough for an evening out, but understated enough to style more casually with denim, tailoring or a simple dress.

Finding one in such well-preserved condition, together with its original YSL dust bag, makes this an especially lovely example for collectors of older Saint Laurent.

CONDITION DISCLAIMER

In very good vintage pre-loved condition. The purple eel leather remains beautifully presented, with only very light, age-appropriate signs of wear consistent with the delicate nature of this type of leather.

There is a very small and faint mark to the front exterior, which is barely noticeable during normal wear. Some minimal surface variation and light wear can also be seen upon close inspection, but nothing that significantly detracts from the overall appearance of the clutch.

The exterior retains its beautiful texture and colour, while the interior remains nicely presented with light signs of previous use. Overall, this is a very well-preserved example of an uncommon YSL design, particularly considering its age and delicate eel-leather construction.
